My usual combat strategy is to have a full pack of fire drakes out, and to run into the room (got a couple of speed and stamina boosts) just far enough to aggro the closest monsters, then retreat behind my pack of drakes. My defense is something like 417 (a couple of good mage robes and a defense 65 hat I pulled out of a fish, plus a few big percentage defense boosts). I just in the last ten minutes (of playtime, last night) got enough magic to cast Summon Fire Drake. I’m level 19 now with strength 45, dex 35, vitality 45, and magic 100.Ī couple of super artifacts gave me the gold to go enchanter happy, so I have something like attack magic skill 32, defense magic 20, charm magic 25. And now I’m mage all the way – abandoned ALL weaponry to speak of. And I found one of the Mage Maces with +8 attack magic, +4 defensive, +4 charm. Then the 1.19 patch hit, and suddenly attack magic was viable. Started out with a charm magic / sword / shield build. Well, I wanted to play a summoner this game. The sword/shield/critical should all have obvious applications, and the defensive magic is so far used only for minor heals, resist element spells, and spectral armor to beef up my defense. For every 7 points I get, I put 2 in sword, 2 in shield, 2 in critical hit, 1 in defensive magic. I’ve been distributing points very evenly. Just to start the ball rolling, my current character is a 13th level sword/shield type. In order to keep myself from going insane with a neverending cycle of Fate restarts, it seemed prudent to ask QT3’ers who have gotten high level characters to share what build really worked well for them, and in particular which skills really helped and which ones didn’t contribute. Every time I get a character into the 10-15 range I start to wonder if maybe I haven’t screwed up my skill distributions and then I talk myself into restarting with a new character. I’ve discovered I have the same problem with Fate that I had with Diablo, my waffling gets in the way of character advancement.
